Day 6: Chased by the Wind...

"I’m a believer in the don’t run unless being chased philosophy of personal fitness.  And even then, it really depends on who’s doing the chasing. ‘Cause let’s be honest, I’m not going to outrun many people; so why not skip all that running and just get to the part where they catch me?  A bit anticlimactic, yes, but much more energy efficient."
~Dawn Dais in The Non-Runner's Marathon Guide for Women

This morning's 5:30 run was, again, cold!  Although slightly warmer than other days, the wind mercilessly attacked not only our faces and fingers, but our poor helpless windpipes and lungs!  Needless to say, there was much less conversation today.  The "we" this morning included Kate, and more importantly, her new sneakers.  It was nice to have their company.  ; )

But seriously, the windchill must have been like 10 degrees!  That ever-present, subtle question was once again whispering through my frozen little brain:  WHY IN THE WORLD DID WE CHOOSE DECEMBER???  The only pro to my very long con list was that we seem to run faster when the temperature drops below freezing.  Today we ran our two miles in about 21 minutes--although we didn't even take time to celebrate this feat.  We were too busy running to the warmth of our cars.

Spring has never looked more wonderful.

  1. I've only run three times with you guys, and I already can agree with you about Spring, haha. I do enjoy the winter though...Incidentally, I bet it felt colder than 10 degrees yesterday, because they said on the radio on my way home today that the wind chill made it feel like 8 or something like that... So, way to run in sub 8 degree temperatures yesterday!
